Ender’s Game

Orson Scott Card

Science Fiction

‘Ender’s Game’ is a story set in the future, mankind have almost mastered space travel and they are at war with an alien species called ‘Buggers’. The story begins on Earth, where we meet Ender for the first time. We also meet his sadistic brother, Peter, who hates Ender and is always trying to injure him. We also meet his sister, Valentine, who cares a lot about Ender. The final character on Earth is Colonel Graff, who runs Battle School. Graff is the person that invites Ender to join Battle School which is in a space station that orbits Earth.

Ender meets a number of different people at Battle School, friends, enemies and sometimes both, he learns how to fight, how to control a fleet and most of all that he can’t trust or rely on anyone.

The book was first written by Orson Scott Card in 1975 and it was first published as a book in the 80s but the author is still able to write about futuristic technology that authors are still writing about today, which means that it isn’t too out of date. During action scenes, the author writes it so you feel like the main character doesn’t have a chance, so you are on the edge of your seat and you can’t put it down.

The chapters in the book always end with you wondering what will happen next, and it’s difficult to know what turn the story will take next, because of this I would recommend this book to people my age that have a lot of time on their hands, for example, a plane trip or a summer vacation as it is difficult to read only one chapter at a time.
