"The Lord of the Rings" trilogy
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien
Fantasy/ Historical Fiction
The trilogy “The Lord of the Rings” is a trilogy of fantasy
novels written by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. Published in the years 1945 and 1955
it has been modified and translated into various languages. The story is in a
third person perspective explaining the tale of the hobbits attempting to
destroy the evil powers that have arisen again. These powers were captured in a
ring that was created for Sauron many millennia ago. The adventurous mission
that is forced upon the hobbits is life endangering and many challenges await
them along with unexpected surprises. Reading this book enables you to follow the
depth in which Tolkien thought, imagined, and finally, wrote in.
At times this
book was the best book I have ever read, and at others, I cursed myself for
choosing it. I had no idea what lay ahead of me until I had read the first chapter. The book gave me a feeling that when I finished another two
chapters I was no further in the story than what I was before. Frankly, I found it a
challenge. Due to the fact that Tolkien uses a peculiarly complex style of
writing. Everything was established in such great detail you get the semblance
of being in the book itself. The depth of the descriptions made the scenes very
comprehensible, but it simply made the entire book longer. The real predicament
was if you put it down you would never find the sentence you stopped at. Furthermore,
sometimes I had to read the sentence three, four, five or maybe even six times
to understand WHAT Tolkien was trying to say, and finally find out that another
character was simply leaving the room. But, even though it took forever to
read, I enjoyed it because it is the first book of its kind I have read and I
wanted to know what the well-known “Lord of the Rings” was about.
I would recommend this book to people who have time. I would
not propose this book to a person not fluent in English as it is fatiguing to
read. However, for anyone who loves a fictional fantasy novel and has the
necessary time and interest to read I would definitely advocate this trilogy to
you.
